The Human Genome Project on the Internet 2
The blueprint of the human genome published in June 2000 revealed a great deal of the human DNA. The amount and sequence of the more than three billion specified base pairs were determined; the exact meaning of the approx. 100.000 genes in total is yet to be clarified. Still this is an important step towards obtaining complete knowledge on our genetic material. In the first issue on this subject the ´Why´s and How´s´ were emphasized, this issue will further specify the meaning and implications of this. DNA knowledge and the connecting proteins will have a great medical and social impact in the decades to come. These issues are merely an effort to draw general attention to this subject. The websites mentioned however are quite elaborate and serve as an invitation to further study this highly interesting subject.
