Oral medicine 5. Dietary counselling and psycho-social aspects of chemosensory disorders
Chemosensory disorders may result in loss of body weight and sometimes in gain of body weight. Therefore, dietary advice is an essential part of the counselling and treatment of patients with a chemosensory disorder. In cases involving a chemosensory disorder, a distinction has to be made between general dietary advice and advice during and after a patient’s period of chemotherapy or radiotherapy. The aim of dietary advice is the improvement of a patient’s nutritional condition and the patient’s well-being. In case of serious problems related to dealing with a chemosensory disorder, psycho-social counselling may be considered.
