Education and dental practice offer possibilities to exchange competences
The 3 dental schools in the Netherlands have the same goals for their graduates, in terms of knowledge and skills, but the contents of the curricula are different. The curricula are all based on the pillars of scientific education, medical education, dental education, and professionalism. Within this construction a student is trained as the manager of an oral health team. At graduation, the new generation of dentists have many (new) competences and relatively limited clinical experience and need support in acquiring clinical experience. Moreover, dentists who have recently graduated may be faced with methods and materials to which they were not introduced in their educational programme. A dentist with considerable clinical experience can test the newly acquired competences of the new generation of dentists, with the benefit of a critical eye, against (routine) daily practices.
