Indications for autotransplantation of teeth
Autotransplantation of teeth offers a biologically sustainable solution for tooth replacement when (strategic) teeth are missing. It can therefore be a valuable treatment option in selected cases. However, autotransplantation is still often not considered due to its specific indications. Common situations in which autotransplantation may be a desirable treatment include mandibular premolar agenesis, premature loss of (anterior) teeth, and orthodontically complex impacted teeth. Dentistry has developed to such an extent in recent decades that it has long since become impossible for a single practitioner to fully master all its aspects. In general dental practice, the ability to recognize, be aware of and consider various treatment options is therefore usually even more important than being able to plan or carry out the treatment in its entirety. Consequently, collaboration is key to a successful outcome. The timely recognition of specific clinical situations can help a dentist determine the correct treatment indication at the right time, ensuring that patients receive the best possible dental care.
